Binding
The binding of books using boards covered with a colored material
such as buckram, imitation leather, bonded leather or genuine leather. Other
materials available by special request. Book covers may
be bound using either hard back boards (hard-cover) or soft back
boards (soft-cover). Also, various types of binding are
available depending on the type and size of the book to be bound.
- Machine Oversewn - Book pages are sewn together
using a book binding machine.
- Hand Sewn - Oversized or irregular sized books must
be hand sewn.
- Double Fan Back - A type of binding used when sewing
is not possible because of very small page margins.
- Straight Stitch - Special binding for thin books.
- Perfect Binding - A type of binding performed with
a cold glue adhesive. Used most often with paper-back
books.
Rebinding
Binding a previously bound book by re-attaching the original cover.
Recasing
Binding a previously bound book with a replacement cover.
Collating
The process of placing pages in a specified order before binding.
Stubbing
The process of filling the spine with material to create an even
binding when binding pages of differing size. This process
is neccessary to provide a rugged and dependable binding.
Ad Removal & Gathering
Contents to Front
When binding periodicals/magazines, this is the removal of advertisement
and subscription cards and optionally placing at the front of the
book..
